Following any large scale cyber incident, such as the recent CrowdStrike issue that took down millions of Windows PC, there's always a surge of scam emails trying to cash in on that event so we thought we'd go into a bit more depth about how to spot and avoid online scams.
This tip on how to send files using Dropbox is one of our most popular tips as this topic comes up a lot. Sending large files by email is never a good idea as it fills your email account up unnecessarily and can make your email slow to a crawl while it tries to send the file.
We've updated this tip a few times to make sure it fits with the latest versions of Dropbox for your devices.
Occasionally, when you're connected to a strong WiFi signal, you may find that you can't actually call up any web pages or send any emails. There are a few reasons why this can be the case and we'll run through some ideas that can help you get online here.
If you're sending photos or PDFs to people it can be very helpful to add your own annotations, whether it's to give someone directions or point something out in the photo. This is very easy to do using Preview on the Mac and below we'll show you how to do it.

If you like to keep your files and emails organised, the Mac has great features to help you do this automatically, with Smart Folders and Smart Mailboxes.
Smart Folders allows you to create a folder on your Mac that looks like a normal folder, but instead of you having to move or copy your files into it, it will ask you for a set of rules and automatically display files that match.
If you have more than one printer, perhaps a mono laser for letters and an inkjet for photos, you will often print to one of them more often than the other and selecting the correct printer each time can become annoying.
On both Windows and Mac you can set the default printer easily so when you print you don’t need to change anything.
If you're working a lot with websites, you need to stick with standard ASCII characters so that they can be displayed properly on the site. By default macOS uses 'smart quotes' in order to make the quotes look better in a document but these can cause problems if you try to copy and paste the text into a website CMS.
Luckily, it's very easy to turn off smart quotes so that you use standard ASCII characters instead.
Having WiFi at home or work can be really convenient when you're using laptops or smartphones/tablets as it means you don't have to be confined to one area when you want to use the Internet, unfortunately just about everything interferes or blocks WiFi to some extent but luckily there are things you can do to try to get the best signal possible.
We're often asked how to find files that have just been downloaded through a web browser, so we thought we'd put a little guide together to show you how to easily locate your downloads.
