If you follow us on Facebook, Twitter or are a regular reader of Tekee Tim's Tips, you'll know that we're a big believer in having as many backups as possible in order to ensure that you never lose any of your data.

Everyone knows that it's very important to keep all your online accounts (Facebook, Google, iCloud, email etc.) as secure as possible to ensure that no one else gets access to any of your personal information.

We thought it was time to update our advice with a system that can add an extra layer of safety to ensure that you're even more secure by using 2 Factor Authentication.

Changing your DNS servers

If you find yourself having intermittent problems with websites loading slowly, email not working and seeing out of date websites, you could be having problems with your DNS servers.

All Internet Providers provide DNS as part of the connection and these convert a website name such as bbc.co.uk into the actual address of the website which is something like 63.194.125.69. Unfortunately the DNS Servers that you get with your Internet connection are usually pretty bad. They can be slow and out of date and we always recommend using better ones.

In this tip, we'll show you have to switch over to using faster and safer DNS on your Mac, Windows PC and your home router.

How to securely send a password

Temporary Password is a good way to send passwords securely, as it is a one time only use link, that way when you send over the link to someone in an email, once you confirm they have the password it's not going to be stored in your emails.

Sometimes we all need to send large files to other people, whether it's a large document for work or a family photo or video to help you keep in touch with family and friends.

Setting up 2FA on Office 365

One of the best things you can do to increase the security of your online accounts is to set up 2 Factor Authentication. This gives you an extra code you need to sign into your account, in addition to your username and password. In this tip we'll show you how to set this up on your Office 365 account.

Using Reader View to make websites easier to read

If you're reading a long article on a website, all the surrounding adverts, pictures and links to other pages can get distracting, most modern web browsers now have a Reader Mode or Reader View which lets you get rid of the distractions and concentrate on what you're trying to read.

Secure your Apple account

If you have an Apple ID or an iCloud account, it's a great idea to switch on Two Step Verification to make sure your account is extra secure. Two Step Verification adds an extra layer to logging into your account, as well as your ID and password, you then need the extra code that comes out to your devices. Without this code, no one can access your account.
